About Us

Palmerston North Chinese School, established in February 2005, is an incorporated charitable organization with a mission to teach Chinese language and promote Chinese culture. PNCS is open to anyone who is interested in learning the language and culture.

Palmerston North Chinese School is managed by its board of trustees who are scientists from Massey University and Crown Research Institutes. The school relies on donations from students and their parents to partially cover its running cost. The school also receives supports from Manawatu Chinese Association, local business, and other community trusts.

Palmerston North Chinese School offers ten Chinese classes, and one traditional Chinese dance class on Saturday (1:00–5:00 PM) during school terms at 98 Napier Road, Palmerston North. There are over 100 registered students from various parts of Manawatu region in 2025. These classes meet the needs of students at different levels, from those who have not learnt Chinese before to those who recognise more than one thousand Chinese characters and speak well. All class are taught by qualified and experienced teachers.

Besides offering weekend classes, Palmerston North Chinese School is interested in providing assistance to local governments, communities, public schools, and businesses in activities relevant to Chinese language and culture. These may include translating documents, providing interpretation services, helping Chinese-speaking immigrants to settle in, contributing to community activities, and promoting educational exchanges between schools in New Zealand and their counterparts in China.
